     William J. "Bill" Sontag Jr., 63, died unexpectedly Tuesday August 25.  He was the husband of Patricia "Patty" (Kelley) Sontag to whom he was married for 25 years.  He was born in Hackensack NJ, the son of the late William Sr. and Johanna (Tagliabue) Sontag and moved to Marlborough in 1986.
     He was a graduate of Bergen Catholic High School and Manhattan College, where he was in the ROTC program.  After college he was commissioned in the United State Air Force.  Mr. Sontag served 20 years in the Air Force and Air Force Reserves, retiring with the rank of Major.    
    Bill worked as a Contracts Manager for many companies including Sperry Systems in NY, VA, and Montreal, the Goodrich Corporation in Chelmsford, Tetratech in Framingham and the Raytheon Corp. in Marlborough.  
    He was a long time member of Immaculate Conception Church, the  Marlborough Knights of Columbus Council #81, the AMVETS Post 1980 in Marlborough, the Air Force Association and the National Contract Management Assoc..  Mr. Sontag was a long time leader of Cub Scout Pack 31 and Boy Scout Troop 31 in Marlborough.
    Besides his wife he is survived by a son William Sontag III of Marlborough, two brothers; Thomas Sontag of Bogota NJ, James Sontag of New Hope PA, one sister Margaret Sontag of Virginia Beach VA.
    His funeral will be held on Monday at 9:00 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St.. Burial will follow in Holy Hood Cemetery in Brookline.  Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 5-8 p.m. in the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home (www.shortfuneral.com), 95 West Main St. Marlborough.
