FERREIRA, Theresa B. “Tess” age 89, formerly of Walpole, MA. Tess was born February 27, 1931 in Eureka, WI and died peacefully at home on December 18, 2020 with her daughters by her side. She leaves behind her daughters Anne J. Scharpf of Southborough, MA and Leigh C. Slattery and her husband Michael R. Slattery M.D. of Knoxville, TN, her sisters Nancy Bott of Pompton Plains, NJ, and Mary Kelling of Berlin, WI, as well as four loving grandchildren and a niece. Her husband of 56 years, Robert W. Ferreira D.D.S., and parents, Leonard and Olive Bradt preceded her in death.
Tess graduated valedictorian of her high school class and proceeded on to earn a B.A. in English at Lawrence University, WI and then an M.A. in English at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. In her early career Tess was an Editor for D.C. Heath Co. in Boston. She later worked as an English teacher for the Walpole Public Schools and then earned an M.A. in Library Science at Bridgewater State University, MA. Tess rounded out her career as a Librarian and Media Specialist in the Walpole schools. You could always find Tess with a book or newspaper under her arm. She was a lover of literature, current events, and the performing arts. She and Bob enjoyed many years of international travel and cultural enrichment, but spending time with their daughters and watching their families grow gave them the greatest pleasure. They retired to Naples, FL, where they spent many more years enjoying new friends and having fun in the warm weather. Services will be private. Donations in memory of Tess may be made to Walpole High School or the Walpole Public Library.
