Maureen Arnott Obituary

Maureen M. (Mitrakas) Arnott, 73, died Wednesday April 14, 2021 after a brief illness.  Most anyone who knew “Bunni,” would likely remark on her giving and caring spirit, bubbly personality and quick sense of humor.  She knew just how to cheer a person up and make them feel special.  She was exceptionally talented at finding the perfect gift to show she really cared. With love and dedication, she spent much of her life supporting her parents Gregory and Ferne Mitrakas.  She was born in Marlborough, and spent a majority of her life there.  She was part of close-knit family, the second eldest of six children.  From a young age it was clear to everyone, she had strong empathy for others. It was her that noticed a younger sister was ill with what would be appendicitis.  As she grew older, she would display a strong work ethic, spending many hours helping at her father’s grocery store.  After moving with her son to South Lancaster, she earned a Bachelor’s degree from Boston College and a Master’s degree from Harvard University as a single mother preparing her own son for college – no small feat. She went on to apply her caring spirit, determination and brilliant mind to great effect, managing a multi-layered family business and caring for aging parents with grace, dedication, and love. With the arrival of her only granddaughter, she found enchantment and joy to fill her up. Maureen made so much of the life she was blessed with, leaving the world and the lives of those she touched better for it.  She leaves behind a deeply grieving family. Her son Benjamin and his wife Andrea, granddaughter Imogen Arnott of West Boylston, MA , four sisters; Diane Linton of Lancaster, MA, Beverly Kehney of Harvard, MA, Aletha Krassin of Wahpeton, ND, Toula Mitrakas of Ashburn, VA,  and one brother Gregory Mitrakas of Marlborough, MA, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests charitable donations in her name to be made to Prevent Child Abuse America. https://preventchildabuse.org/donate/
