John "Johnny" G. Cummings 65 of W. Roxbury, died on June 24, 2020 at Care One Nursing Home in Randolph after a long illness.
Johnny was born in Worcester, the son of the late Leon Cummings and his late wife Hope (Gilbert) Cummings.
He attended Wellesley High School and graduated in 1972. He majored in Journalism at UMass Amherst and graduated in 1976. He wrote many articles for the Boston Globe, local newspapers and magazines.
Johnny is survived by his sister Barbara Wicklman of Marlborough, his step mother Mattie Cummings of Framingham; his nephew Jonathan Wicklman of Chicopee and his wife Cheyenne. His nephew Benjamin Wicklman of Marlborough and Jessica Harrington of Marlborough and his great nephews Jaxon and Cole. His cousins Peter and Linda Foster, Janet and Ronald Cummings Jr. and his 94 year old Aunt Dorothy Cummings and his many friends.
Johnny was an avid lifelong Red Sox fan and went to games each Summer at Fenway Park. He also loved all Boston sports teams. He drove a taxi in Boston and enjoyed talking with people as he drove them to their destinations. He loved his cat Minnie.
Following cremation a private Grave side service will be held at a later date in Maine.
