Edward "Ed" Burns Obituary

Edward (Ed) P. Burns Jr., 79, of Marlborough, MA, passed away on March 22, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Ed was born in Waltham, MA, the son of late Edward and Barbara (Weagle) Burns. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judith (Cusack) Burns, his three sons, Michael and his wife Jen of Southborough, Matthew and his wife Laurie of Ayer, Kevin and his wife Lisa of Boston, five grandchildren, Kayla, Trevor, Garrett, Luke, and Cassidy. Ed is also survived by his two brothers, John and his wife Mary of Norfolk, James and his wife Paula of Franklin, along with several nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Waltham High School, where he met his wife, Judith. He then followed in his father’s footsteps and started his career at Varian Vacuum Technologies in Lexington, where he worked for 45 years.

Ed always put family first and he cherished vacationing with his children and grandchildren, attending sporting events, or watching old classic movies (from his beloved recliner). He channeled his passion for athletics by coaching his three boys and playing golf. Ed coached youth soccer and basketball for 15+ years and even served as the President of the Marlborough Youth Soccer Association and Marlborough High School All Sports Boosters Club. In 2010, Ed retired from Varian and began working part-time at Butternut Farm Golf Club in Stow, where you could always find him with a smile on his face and a putter in his hand. Ed left a mark on those around him, and he will be deeply missed.
