SHREWSBURY- Peter G. Bates, 66, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017 at the Rose Monahan Hospice in Worcester. He was the beloved husband of Leighann Grado.
Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Percy and Evelyn (Fenner) Bates and was raised and educated in Warwick, RI.
During the Vietnam War he served with the United States Marine Corps attaining the rank of Lance Corporal.
Peter worked for many years as a roofer in the construction field and loved his cats.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Peter Bates, Jr., and his wife, Linnea, of Hudson and Leo Bates and his wife, Missy, of Hudson; one brother, Steven Bates and his wife Nancy, of Hudson; a sister-in-law, Tina Grado and her husband, Aaron Hersey of Sugarbush, VT and four grandchildren, Justin, Brian, Matthew and Justice.
He was the brother of the late Michael Bates.
Services and interment will be private.
Donations in his memory may be made to a Disabled American Veteran’s organization.
Arrangements are under the care of the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home, Marlborough.
