Mary E. (Quinn) McCook

Mary Elizabeth (Quinn) McCook, 96, born February 9, 1921, died peacefully at Wingate Nursing Home, Sudbury, MA on Thursday March 23, 2017.  She was the wife of James C. McCook, the former owner of McCook’s Pharmacy which operated in Marlboro on West Main Street from 1950 through the late 1980’s. Mr. McCook died in 1991.  Mary & James McCook were married for 49 years.  

Mary McCook was the daughter of the late William and Eleanor Quinn of Maynard, MA and lived in Marlborough for more than 40 years.  

Before her long-term nursing care, Mary McCook was very active in the Immaculate Conception parish church and school and supported her husband in the Rotary Club and Knights of Columbus activities. She was a very active, devoted and grateful member of AA and al-anon for many years. Her hobby and her legacy are the many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren she leaves behind.She loved music and dancing and had an exceptional taste for fashion.

She is survived by 3 daughters and 9 sons and their spouses: Hibiscus Rose of Hopkinton, MA, Kathy Scarpa and Frank Scarpa of Ipswich, MA, Eleanor McCook of Worcester, MA, John & Stephanie McCook of Frisco, TX, William and Martha McCook of Marlboro, MA, James &  Barbara of Louisville, KY, Joseph McCook of Wauwatosa, WI, Daniel & Patricia McCook of Marlboro, MA, Anthony and Sue McCook of Salem, NH, Christopher & Theresa McCook of Watkinsville, GA, Gerard & Maureen McCook of Shrewsbury  MA ,Thomas McCook & Karen deMoor of Moss Beach, CA, ,She is predeceased by a daughter, Bernadette McCook . In addition to her 12 living children, Mary McCook was the proud grandmother of 32 grandchildren, and numerous great grand children.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. In the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St. Marlborough.  Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Marlborough.  Visiting hours at the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home (www.shortfuneral.com), 95 West Main St Marlborough, will be held on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
